Phillip D. Workman, 82, of Astoria died July 26, 2025, surrounded by his family.
He was born Jan. 19, 1943, in rural Astoria, a son of Everett and Lola Pearl Smith Workman. He married Vicki I. St. Dennis on March 23, 1963, in Canton. She preceded him in death on Aug. 3, 1998.
He also was preceded in death by three children, Valerie Lynn, Barbara Jo and Terry Allen Workman; one brother, Dwayne Workman; and one nephew, Gary Workman.
Surviving are two daughters, Tammy Peterman and Linda (and Dickie) Fisher; seven grandchildren, Brandon (and Lindsey Rohbaugh) Workman, Bradley (and Savannah Nelson) Workman, Catherine (and Jay Meisner) Peterman, Jeremy (and Chrissy) Fisher, Matthew (and Rebecca Lytle) Fisher, Amanda (and Justin) Gulick and Amy (and Curtis) Sprout; and several great- and great-great-grandchildren.
He worked at the Vermont Foundry in the early 1960s and then went to work at Caterpillar for 31 years before retiring.
He was an inaugural Board member of the South Fulton Water District and stayed on the Board for many years. He was also a member of the Vermont Masonic Lodge for 30 years.
He was a part-time farmer who enjoyed raising cows, pigs, chickens, ducks and turkeys.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A graveside service in the Astoria Cemetery will be held at a later date.
