Majorie WherleyMarjorie M. Wherley, 96, of Macomb, formerly of Table Grove, died at 5:40 p.m. Sept. 26, 2015, at The Elms in Macomb.

She was born Jan. 18, 1919, in Oakland Township, Schuyler County, a daughter of Roy and Nellie Morrell Heaton. She married Robert Wherley on May 17, 1941, in Kahoka, Mo. He preceded her in death on July 17, 1998.

She also was preceded in death by one son, Dennis Wherley; four sisters, Nedra Andrews, Melba Rhodes, Louise “Poodge” Parr and Wanda Brown; and one brother, Franklin “Bud” Heaton.

Surviving are one daughter-in-law, Michelle Wherley of Table Grove; two brothers, Jim (and Opal) Heaton of Astoria and Stanley “Bill” Heaton of Quincy; two grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was a 1937 graduate of Vermont High School and a 1939 graduate of Western Illinois Teachers College. She taught school for eight years, two years at Shinn School, two years at Hazel Green School and four years at Table Grove School where she taught fifth and sixth grade.

She was a former member of Table Grove Community Church where she served as treasurer for 21 years. She also was active in the Women’s Fellowship, where she was treasurer from 1980 to 2004. She was a member of the Laurel Star Chapter 852, Order of the Eastern Star in Table Grove where she was past Worthy Matron. She was a member of the HEA for years, and was part of The Crossing family of Macomb.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Pastor Clayton Hentzel officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services on Wednesday. Cremation rites have been accorded with inurnment held at the Harris Cemetery in Table Grove at a later date.
