Dennis WherleyDennis Wherley, 67, of Table Grove died at 6:16 p.m. April 8, 2015, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.

He was born Dec. 1, 1947, the son of Robert and Marjorie Heaton Wherley. He married Michelle Howell on July 26, 1968, in Ipava. She survives.

Also surviving are his mother, Marjorie Wherley; one son, Anthony (and Rhonda) Wherley; one daughter, Christy Wherley; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert E. Wherley.

He was a lifelong farmer, farming the same ground for 43 years.

He served in the Illinois National Guard.

He served his community on the Table Grove Fire and Rescue Squad as a volunteer fireman and later chief. He spent many years on the VIT School Board, serving part time as the president. He was a member of the American Legion, Fulton County Farm Bureau and the Masons. He also was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity at Western Illinois University, where he earned a bachelors degree in agricultural education. He was actively involved in Walk to Emmaus, serving on the board. He was a member of The Crossing in Macomb.

A Celebration of Life was held at 4 p.m. Sunday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Clayton Hentzel officiating. Burial was in Harris Cemetery in Table Grove.

Memorials may be made to Table Grove Fire and Rescue Squad or St. Johns Hospital in care of Oncology Department.
