Robert Wherley

Robert E. Wherley, 79, of Table Grove, died at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, 1998, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.

He was born Nov. 19, 1918, in Table Grove, a son of Joseph B. and Mable Emig Wherley. He married Marjorie Heaton on May 17, 1941, in Kahoka, Mo. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Dennis of Table Grove; one brother, Joseph Jr. of Royersford, Pa.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Two brothers preceded him in death.

He was a farmer and former director of the Fulton County Farm Bureau. He was a former director of Table Grove Farmers Elevator. He was a past master and a 50-year member of Table Grove Masonic Lodge. He was a past patron of Laurel Star Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. He was a member of Table Grove Community Church. He was a member of the reorganization board and was director of Mid-Century Telephone Co. He was a Table Grove village board member. He was an IHSA football and basketball official and a basketball timekeeper for VIT High School for several years.

A memorial service was held Saturday at his church with Rev. Tim Ashley officiating. Cremation has been accorded, and burial was in Harris Cemetery. Kost Memorial Home in Vermont was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to his church or Table Grove Rescue Squad.
