Cecil WrightCecil Wright, 86, of Vermont died at 1:37 p.m. April 26, 2011, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.

He was born July 13, 1924, in Eldorado Township in McDonough County, a son of Cecil H. and Della Emig Wright.

He married Ethel Walters on March 3, 1945, in New Orleans, La. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Cecilia (and John) Kost of Vermont; two sisters, Bessie Ellen Bricker of Astoria and Doris Lafary of Smithfield; two brothers, Homer Wright of Vermont and Robert Wright of Mount Carmel; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Charles and George Wright; one sister, Hilma Guppy; and one brother, Max.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving from 1943-45 with a rank of Gunners Mate 3C.

He was a supervisor at Vermont Foundry for 40 years, retiring in 1986.

He was a member of Vermont Christian Church, Carroll Rankin American Legion Post #26 of Vermont, Vermont Blue Masonic Lodge #116 AF and AM for 64 years, Chapter #81 of LaHarpe, Council #117 of LaHarpe, Commandry #8 of Galesburg, the Consistory of Peoria, York Rite College #42 of Peoria, KYCH 33 Degree and Illinois Shriners Valley of Springfield.

Services were held Friday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Gary Sheets officiating. Burial was in Vermont Cemetery with military rites conducted by Carroll Rankin American Legion Post #26.

Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children or the donor's choice.
