Homer WrightHomer Eugene “Gene” “Pistol” “Sarge” Wright, 86, of Vermont died at 4:51 p.m. Sept. 3, 2017, at Unity Point Health Methodist Hospital in Peoria.

He was born Nov. 22, 1930, in Vermont Township, Fulton County, a son of Della May Emig Wright. He married Annemarie Elise Wassmuth on Sept. 13, 1960, in Fulda, Germany. She preceded him in death on May 14, 1982.

He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Max D. Wright and Cecil Wright Jr.; and one sister, Hilma Guppy.

He is survived by two sons, Cecil E. Wright of Rock Island and Dennis (and Marnie) Wright of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; one daughter, Kathryn (and Mike) Holliday of Gilbert, Ariz.; one brother, Robert Wright; one sister, Bessie Ellen Bricker; and four grandchildren.

He was an Army Veteran and served over 20 years. He also did a Vietnam tour in 1967. SFC Wright retired in 1971. He then went to work for Caterpillar as a heavy crane operator and retired in 1986.

Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Vermont Cemetery with full military rites.
