Wayne W. Wherley, 84, of Astoria, died at 12:05 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, 1995, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Center in Rushville.

He was born Nov. 10, 1910, in Adair, a son of Earl and Nettie Elizabeth Walters Wherley. He married Emma Painter on Aug. 24, 1935, in Virginia. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Jean Thompson of Danville; one grandson, Charles Steven Thompson; one great-granddaughter, Taira Thompson; two sisters, Melba Huff of Lewistown and Merlena Lighter of Pekin; and one brother, Willis of Decatur.

He was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.

He worked in electrical construction in the Astoria area. A World War II Navy veteran, he was a member of Astoria American Legion Post 25, where he was a past post commander. He also served as a past Fulton County American Legion commander. He was a member of Woodland Church of the Brethren.

Funeral services were held Saturday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Rev. Ron Burtz officiating. Burial was in Astoria Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to his church, Culbertson Memorial Hospital or any charity.
