EMMA (PAINTER) WHERLEY

Emma Wherley

Emma Wherley, 86, of Danville, formerly of Astoria, died at 12:20 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, 1997, at Vermilion Manor Nursing Center in Danville.

She was born Nov. 29, 1910, in Sheldons Grove, a daughter of David and Emma Brehm Painter. She married Wayne W. Wherley on Aug. 24, 1935 in Virginia. He died April 26, 1995. Also preceding her in death were five sisters and two brothers.

Surviving are one daughter, Jean Thompson of Danville; one grandson, Charles Steve Thompson of Danville; one great-granddaughter; and one sister, Pauline Cassel of Lady Lake, Fla.

She was a member of the Sheldons Grove United Methodist Church and the Astoria American Legion Auxiliary.

Services were held Sunday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Rev. James Shirley officiating. Burial was in Astoria Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Sheldons Grove United Methodist Church, the Woodland Church of the Brethren, or the Astoria Township Cemetery Association.
