Earl C. Wherley Of Lewistown Dies

Earl C. Wherley, 82, of rural Lewistown, former Astoria resident, died at 12:50 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, 1974, at Graham Hospital in Canton. He had been in failing health for six months.

He was born Aug. 12, 1892, in Astoria, a son of Conrad and Lana Stauffer Wherley. He married Nettie Walters in 1909 and she died Nov. 23, 1953. He married Alta Bloom on April 12, 1957. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Wayne Wherley of Astoria and Willis Wherley of Decatur; three daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Cebuhar and Mrs. Merlena Brooks, both of Canton; and Mrs. Melba Huff of Lewistown; nine grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. A son, a sister and six brothers died earlier.

Mr. Wherley was a member of the Woodland Church of the Brethren. He was retired from the Caterpillar Tractor Company.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Burial was in the Woodland Cemetery.
