Lucille Vanell

Lucille F. Vanell, 80, of Springfield, Mo., formerly of Vermont and Astoria, died at 7:35 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, 1995, at Elfin-Dale Manor nursing home in Springfield.

She was born Dec. 1, 1914, in Pueblo, Colo., a daughter of Jesse R. and Maud Kost France. She married Carl W. Talbott on April 16, 1937, in Eolia, Mo. She later married Victor L. Vanell on July 5, 1964, in Pasadena, Calif. He survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Carla Talbott of Palo Alto, Calif., and Lona Jo Miller of Springfield, Mo.; one son, Jan William Talbott of Pasadena; five grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Wendell (Louise) Tingley of Colorado Springs.

She was a telephone operator in the Astoria telephone office. She was a substitute teacher at Astoria and Bader schools for 10 years. She later was an education counselor at Washington High School in Washington, Iowa. From 1965 until she retired in 1977, she was an educational counselor at El Rancho High School system in Pico Rivera, Calif. She was a 50-year member and past matron of Order of Eastern Star Chapter 144 in Astoria. She was a member of Astoria United Methodist Church.

Graveside services, with interment of cremains were held Saturday at Astoria Cemetery with Rev. Lance Leeds officiating. Order of Eastern Star Services were conducted by Ipava Chapter 226. Cremation has been accorded. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Astoria Township Cemetery Association.
