JUDITH A. (FORD) TARTER

Judith Tarter

Judith A. Tarter, 57, of Pleasanton, Texas, formerly of Smithfield and Cuba, died at 10:25 a.m. Monday, April 16, 2001, at Saint Luke's Baptist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas.

She was born Oct. 13, 1943, in Cuba, a daughter of Aubury L. and Mary Jane West Ford. She married Paul R. Tarter on Feb. 16, 1963, in rural Cuba. He survives.

Also surviving are her mother of Canton; one son, Jason Tarter of Pleasanton; one daughter, Dawn Tarter of Chicago; two brothers, Vernon (and Cindy) Ford of Canton and Donald "Doc" (and Pat) Ford of Greensburg, Ind.; and one sister, Sandra (and Lloyd) Pigg of Canton.

She was preceded in death by her father.

She was a graduate of the Cuba school system. She was a graduate of Western Illinois University, where she received a bachelor's degree in education and a master's degree in reading. She received her National Certified Teacher's Certification in 1999.

She taught in the Cuba school system prior to moving to Texas in 1984. She took a medical retirement in the spring of 2000 from the San Antonio Independent School System where she had been a teacher since 1984.

She was a member of the National Gifted Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development and the American Federation of Teachers.

She was a member of the Cuba Christian Church.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba with Rev. Amy Wharton officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Friday. Burial will be in the Cuba Cemetery.
