IONA M. (GRUBER) RICHARDSON TOWERY

Iona Towery

Iona M. Towery, 79, of Havana died at 11 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

She was born Sept. 22, 1920, in Astoria, a daughter of Jessie and Bessie Bucher Gruber. She married James Richardson on Feb. 17, 1940, in Palmyra, Mo. He died April 29, 1945. She married Joe E. Towery Sr. on April 17, 1948, in Havana. He died March 12, 1987.

One son, one great-grandson, two brothers and one sister also preceded her in death.

Surviving are three sons, Joe (and Glenda) Towery Jr. of Havana, John Towery of Chesapeake, Va., and David (and Judy) Richardson of Eagle River, Ark.; two daughters, Mrs. Darrell (Debby) Pierce of Bluff City and Mrs. Bob (Phyllis) Koch of Washington; two brothers, Stan (and Nancy) Gruber of Astoria, Gerald (and Barb) Gruber of Farmington and Bobby Becker of Washington state; one sister, Ollidean Huber of Peoria; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was a member of Church of the Brethren in Astoria. She was a life member of Havana Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6408 Ladies Auxiliary.

Graveside services were held Saturday at Laurel Hill Cemetery with Rev. Brian Culver officiating. Hurley Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
