Mrs. J. C. Hamm Of Browning Dies

Mrs. J. C. (Mary E.) Hamm, 65, of rural Browning died at 10:08 a.m. Friday, Oct. 23, 1987, at St. John’s North in Springfield.

She was born Dec. 23, 1921, in Astoria, a daughter of Jesse and Bessie Bucher Gruber. She married J. C. Hamm Oct. 7, 1939, in Palmyra, Mo. He survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Sandra Poppenhager of Astoria and Mrs. Robert (Shirley) Tigar of Browning; five grandchildren; four brothers, Gerald Gruber of Farmington, Stanley Gruber of Peoria, Bob and Don Becker, both of Idaho; and two sisters, Mrs. Ollidean Huber of Peoria and Mrs. Iona Towery of Havana. One brother, Max Gruber, preceded her in death.

She was a member of the Church of the Brethren.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Steve Cunningham officiating. Burial was in the Sheldons Grove Cemetery.
