Patsy Springs

Patsy S. Springs, 77, of Macomb, formerly of Vermont, died at 12:55 p.m. Aug. 10, 2018, at Wesley Village in Macomb.

She was born Sept. 25, 1940, in Astoria Township, Fulton County, a daughter of Orval and Imogene Springs Umphryes. She married Howard D. Springs on Aug. 21, 1958, in Rushville. He preceded her in death.

She also was preceded in death by three brothers, Orval Jr., George Wayne and Neil Eugene Umphryes.

Surviving are one son, Peter Springs of Macomb; six sisters, Lona Jo (and Bill) Wagner of Belville, Rosie Ellen (and Gary) Wece of Murphysboro, Susan Jane Jackson of Pontiac, Nancy Ann Hayes and Donna Dee Raudabaugh, both of Vermont, and Betsy Dorene Umphryes of Centralia; and three brothers, Richard Lee Umphryes, Jon Paul Umphryes and Henry Joseph Umphryes, all of Vermont.

She worked 15 years in Havana, first for Atwood Manufacturing, then DANA Corporation, until their closing in 1979.

She was a member of Vermont Christian Church, Carroll Rankin American Legion Auxiliary Post #26 of Vermont and the Rebekah Lodge #385 of Bushnell. She was a nine-year member of the Village Board of Vermont and several years was a committee member of the Bethany Special Needs Program in Macomb. She was the collector for “Love Packages” in Vermont for the last 15-20 years. She was instrumental in working with the Vermont Cemetery Board to repair and set GI Markers for those veterans who either didn’t have a marker or the one issued had been damaged.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mount Zion Cemetery in Astoria with Pastor Cody Stinnett officiating. There will be no visitation. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria is in charge of arrangements.
