George Wayne Umphryes, 58, of Rushville, formerly of Vermont, died at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2005, at Snyder's Vaughn-Haven Nursing Home.

He was born Dec. 15, 1946, in Rushville Township, Schuyler County, a son of Orval and Imogene Spring Umphryes.

Surviving are three sons, George Jr. of Monmouth, and Robert and William, both of Astoria; one daughter, Sue (and Marvin) Hammock of Browning; three brothers, Richard, Jon and Henry, all of Vermont; seven sisters, Patsy Springs, Nancy (and Terry) Hays and Donna (and Walter) Raudabaugh, all of Vermont, Lona (and David) Krohe of Caseyville, Rosie (and Gary) Wece of Murphysboro, Susan Jackson of Pontiac and Betsy Umphryes of Centralia; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Neil Eugene and Orval Jr.

He was a Vietnam War Army veteran.

He was a welder until retiring due to ill health.

Cremation has been accorded. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Sept. 17 at Vermont Christian Church with Rev. Tim Gilliland officiating. Burial of ashes will be in Good Hope Cemetery northeast of Rushville. Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the activities fund at the Snyder's Vaughn-Haven Nursing Home.

Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Snyder's Vaughn-Haven activity fund.
