LEONA R. (BAUM) SKILES

Leona Skiles

Leona R. Skiles, 89, of Macomb, formerly of Astoria, died at 2:55 a.m. June 28, 2008, at Bickford Cottage of Macomb.

She was born Oct. 5, 1918, in Woodland Township, Fulton County, a daughter of John and Mary Burgard Baum. She married Charles Edmund “Bud” Skiles on Oct. 28, 1939, in Palmyra, Mo. He died July 1, 2004.

She also was preceded in death by one son, Edmund Eugene Skiles; three brothers, Russell, John Rodney and Ronald Baum; and three sisters, Gartha Royer, Frances Heller and Lola Mae Huff.

Surviving are one daughter, Diana (and Ernie) Welchel of Peru; one son, Darrell (and Carolyn) Skiles of Colchester; three brothers, Raymond (and Waltrau) Baum of Columbia, S.C., Richard (and Anne) Baum of Quincy and Robert (and Joan) Baum of Ipava; three sisters, Margaret Wells of Muscatine, Iowa, Rosalie (and Bill) Harvey of Columbus, Texas, and Judy (and Bill) Kellog of Elwood; nine grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

She was a nurses aid at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville from 1959-1970. She then was an LPN at Astoria Care Center from 1970-1986.

She was a member of Fulton County Farm Bureau.

Services were held Tuesday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Rhonda Brown officiating. Burial was in Astoria Cemetery.
