Ronald "Ron" L. Baum Sr., 78, of East Moline died Thursday, July 5, at his home.

He was born May 24, 1923, in Vermont, Fulton County, a son of John and Mary Burgard Baum. He married Evelyn L. Smith in 1965. She died in 1981. He married Kathleen M. Linn on Aug. 31, 1985, in Moline. She survives.

Also surviving are 13 children and stepchildren, Mary Lou Anderson of Hampton, Dianna Jean Plaza of Coal Valley, Ronald L. Baum Jr. of Moline, John Albert Baum of Memphis, Tenn., Candace Kitzman of Washington, Tom McLaughlin of Bettendorf, Terry Adamson of Andalusia, David Adamson of Muscatine, Lori Dunker of Moline, Robin Nussberger of East Moline, Tammy McQuillen of Davenport, Shannon Adamson of Moline and Jamie Adamson of Moline; three brothers, Raymond Baum of Columbia, S.C., Richard Baum of Quincy and Robert Baum of Ipava; five sisters, Leona Skiles of Astoria, Margaret Wells of Muscatine, Rosalie Harvey of East Moline, Lola Mae Huff of Coal Valley and Judy Kellogg of Elmwood; 32 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Russell and John; and two sisters, Gartha Royer and Frances Heller.

He was an electrical contractor and owned and operated the B&R Electric Co. He retired in 1992.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served in World War II.

He was a member of Countryside Christian Church in Rapids City.

Services were held Monday at Sullivan-Phillips Mortuary Ltd. in East Moline with Rev. Derek Pottinger officiating. Burial was in Greenview Memorial Gardens.
