John Baum

John R. Baum, 61, of Davenport, Iowa, died Monday, Feb. 3, 1997, at Genesis West Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 10, 1935, in Astoria, a son of John and Mary Burgard Baum. He married June Travis on June 24, 1972 in East Moline. She survives.

Also surviving are four stepdaughters, Debbie Mattson, Rockford, Dr. Val Svetich, Santa Clara, Calif., Fran Scotting, Isanti, Minn., and Martha Fox, Laurel, Fla.; four stepsons, Robert Svetich, Davenport, Charles Fox, East Moline, Larry Fox, Racine, Wis., and David Fox, Waukegan; six sisters, Gartha Royer, Macomb, Leona Skiles, Astoria, Margaret Wells, Muscatine, Rosalie Harvey, Columbus, Texas, Lola Mae Huff, Coal Valley, and Judy Kellogg, Elwood; five brothers, Ronald Baum, Columbus, Ind., Raymond Baum, Columbia, N.C., Richard Baum, Quincy, and Robert Baum, Ipava; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was employed with Bendix Corporation of Davenport for five years and later he had worked as a dispatcher at Williams Marine in Davenport from 1975 to 1988. Since 1988 he has worked at Blackhawk Fleet of Davenport.

Services will be held Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at the Runge Mortuary in Davenport. Visitation will be held tonight from 4 to 7 p.m. at the mortuary. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. Mark Lutheran Church or the American Heart Association.
