HAZEL FLORINE (MUMMERT) SHIELDS

Hazel Shields

Hazel Florine Shields, 95, of Rushville died at 8:40 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at Culbertson Long Term Care Facility.

She was born April 8, 1906, in Fulton County, a daughter of Emmanuel Clayton and Della Delay Markley Mummert. She married Park Shields on Dec. 24, 1936, in Rushville. He died Sept. 7, 1975.

She also was preceded in death by three sisters, Hollie Wilson, Leota Pegg and Corda Wilson; and two brothers, Keith and Marshall Mummert.

Surviving are two daughters, Karen (and Russell) Diseron of Rushville and Maralee Morrissey of Plandome, N.Y.; one son, Marvin Shields of Tampa, Fla.; two grandsons; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, June Martin of Roodhouse.

She taught school in Fulton and Schuyler counties for 37 years, retiring in 1971.

She was a member of Schuyler-Brown Retired Teachers Association, Schuyler County Home Extension, Rushville Business and Professional Women's Club and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.

She was a member of First Christian Church Disciples of Christ.

Services were held Friday at Worthington Funeral Home with Rev. Rosalec Ross officiating. Burial was in Summum Cemetery in Summum.
