Doris Skiles

Doris Elizabeth Skiles, 79, of Rushville, died at 11 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, 1995, at her home.

She was born on Nov. 26, 1915, in Schuyler County, a daughter of the late Herbert A. and Reba F. Reich Bartlow. She first married Robert Greer in 1935 in Iowa. He preceded her in death on Feb. 26, 1938. She later married Berl B. Skiles on July 15, 1940, in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. He preceded her in death on Feb. 26, 1988.

She is survived by one son, Gary Skiles of Newton, Iowa; two daughters, Cheryl Clements of Rushville and Mrs. Charles R. “Dick” (Marna) Davis of Astoria; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Maurine Strong of Rushville and Margie Davis of Dallas, Texas.

She was preceded in death by one grandson, Scott Alan Clements.

She worked for the State of Illinois Social Security office for six years. She owned and operated Skiles Ready to Wear Store in Rushville, retiring in 1979. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Rushville, the Business and Professional Women’s Club and was president of the Opti-Mrs. Club and the president of the PTA.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the Wood-Roby Funeral Chapel in Rushville with Rev. Wayne Bonser officiating. Burial was in the Rushville City Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the Cass-Schuyler Home Health Care.

Wood-Roby Funeral Chapel in Rushville was in charge of arrangements.
