Maurine StrongMaurine Lucille Strong, 93, of Rushville died at 2:45 p.m. April 1, 2011, at Culbertson Long Term Care Facility in Rushville.

She was born Aug. 5, 1917, in Littleton, a daughter of Herbert A. and Reba F. Reich Bartlow. She married James Strong on Aug. 14, 1939, in Colorado Springs, Colo. He preceded her in death on Dec. 21, 1982.

She also was preceded in death by two sisters, Doris Skiles and Margie Davis; and one niece, Marna Davis.

Surviving are two sons, Herbert L. (and Nancy) Strong of Macomb and Mike (and Pam) Strong of Nauvoo; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was a 1934 graduate of Rushville High School.

She operated the LaVerne Beauty Salon with Betty Melvin for 15 years. She and her husband, along with her sisters and their husbands co-owned a bowling alley in Rushville for many years.

She was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and sang in its choir for many years.

Visitation will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday at Wood Funeral Home in Rushville. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Wood Funeral Home with Reverend John Sowers officiating. Burial will follow in Rushville City Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) or Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice.
