BETTY L. (MARKLEY) SPATES

Betty Spates of Rushville Dies

Betty L. Spates, 70, of Rushville died at 12:40 a.m. Thursday, July 26, 1990, at her residence.

She was born April 2, 1920, in Summum, a daughter of Seymer and Rowena Sheckler Markley. She married John Spates on Dec. 31, 1947. He survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Lydia Green and Marian Freteug, both of Rushville; one sister, Mary Hamm of Astoria; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother.

She worked as a cook for 15 years in the Rushville High School cafeteria before retiring in 1982. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Rushville and the United Presbyterian Women.

Funeral services were held Saturday at her church, with Collis Trone officiating. Burial was in Rushville City Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to her church or to the Schuyler County Cancer Society.
