Mrs. Rowena Markley Dies After Long Illness

Mrs. Rowena L. Markley, 72, Summum, died Thursday at Culbertson Hospital in Rushville where she had been a patient for seven weeks. She had been in poor health for 13 years.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Burial was in Summum Cemetery. The Rev. John Robert and the Rev. Fines Main conducted the services.

Mrs. Markley was born Oct. 6, 1894, at Ellisville, the daughter of Fred and Minnie Leeper Sheckler. She was married to Seymer L. Markley in Havana Dec. 26, 1916. She was a member of the Summum Christian Church.

She is survived by her husband; a son, Robert Sheckler of Topeka, Ill.; two daughters, Mrs. Betty Spates of Rushville and Mrs. Mary Hamm of Astoria; four grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Nettie Dolton of Peoria; two brothers, Lester Sheckler of Des Moines, Iowa; and David Sheckler of Ellisville.

A brother and a sister died previously.
