Ernest A. Smith, 81, of rural Astoria (Summum), died at 10:36 p.m. Sunday, April 8, 1990, at St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
He was born Oct. 22, 1908, in Fulton County, a son of Verner Darel and Goldie Sowers Smith. He married Wanda Way on April 16, 1931, in Galesburg. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Robert of rural Canton; three grandchildren; two sisters, Marie Roudebush of Rushville and Ida Ferne Cluney of Astoria; and two brothers, Dalbert of Lewistown and Albert of Havana. He was preceded in death by two sisters.
He worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for 35 years before retiring.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Collis Trone will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the memorial home. Burial will be in Summum Cemetery.
