Boyd Sager Of Astoria Dies

Boyd Sager, 58, of Astoria, died at 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, 1985, at Culbertson Hospital in Rushville.

He was born Sept. 4, 1927, in Shelbina, Mo., a son of Paul and Hazel (Thompson) Sager. He married Joanna Johnson March 26, 1949, in Astoria. She survives.

Other survivors include his mother, Hazel Sager of Astoria; five sons, Mark Sager of Bluffs, Kevin Sager and Paul Sager, both of Astoria, Wyatt Sager of Beardstown, and Jim Sager of Peoria; two brothers, Don Sager of Reno, Nev., and Bernard Sager of Elmwood; eight grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He graduated from Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa, with a teaching certificate, and taught elementary school for 29 years in the Schuyler County School District until his retirement in 1977.

He was a manager of Camp Emmanuel, Church of the Brethren Camp near Astoria from 1966 to 1975, coached summer baseball for 10 years in Astoria, and was the official scorekeeper for Astoria High School from 1964 to 1975. He was a member of Astoria Church of the Brethren.

His life was dedicated to serving children.
