Mark Sager

Mark SagerMark Allen Sager, 63, of Bluffs died July 11, 2013, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.

He was born June 6, 1950, in Beardstown, a son of Boyd Allen and Joanna Ruth Johnson Sager. He married Judy K. Sandman on Nov. 7, 1987, in Bluffs. She survives.

Also surviving are his mother, Joanna Sager of Astoria; two sons Jason (and Nicole) Sager of Peoria and Dale (and Jennifer) Sager of Summerville, S.C.; four brothers, Kevin Sager and Paul (and Jeanie) Sager, both of Astoria, Wyatt (and Trish) Sager of Beardstown and Jim Sager of Eldorado; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father.

He graduated from Astoria High School in 1968 and from Monmouth College in 1972 where he played basketball for four years. He taught history at Yates City Junior-Senior High School from 1972-78, was employed at Caterpillar in Mossville from 1978-82 and again taught history at Bluffs Junior-Senior High School from 1982 until his retirement in 2010. He was presently teaching social studies and PE at Salem Lutheran School in Jacksonville since 2010. For his entire teaching career, he coached boys and girls sports.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Bluffs.

Services were held Monday at his church. Burial was in Neelyville Lutheran Cemetery.
