VeteranJohn Stambaugh Dies In Moline

John C. Stambaugh, 84, of Astoria, died at 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, 1980, at Lutheran Hospital in Moline.

He was born June 15, 1896, in Fulton County, a son of Henry and Mary Ellen Stroops Stambaugh. He was married to Ruth Lear Belville on Nov. 18, 1919 at Rushville. She preceded him in death on Jan. 1, 1972.

Survivors include three daughters, Miss Lucretia Stambaugh and Mrs. Ann Phelps, both of Moline; and Mrs. Ellen Day of Macomb; two sons, John Stambaugh, Jr. of St. Augustine and Clyde Belville of Moline; 21 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; one brother, Jess Stambaugh of Astoria; and three sisters, Mrs. Kathryn Smithers of Macomb, Mrs. Lefa Edwards of Plymouth, and Mrs. Beulah Briney of Astoria.

He was preceded in death by one son, three sisters and two brothers.

Mr. Stambaugh was a veteran of World War I and a member of the American Legion Post 25 of Astoria.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Collis Trone officiating. Burial will be in the Astoria Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. this evening at Shawgo's.
