Jake E. Schisler Dies Suddenly

A 75-year-old farmer died of an apparent heart attack about 10:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, 1976, as he was attempting to extinguish a fire in a machine shed.

Jake E. Schisler of RR 2, Astoria, was trying to put out a fire caused when lightning struck the shed, according to Fulton County Coroner George Kauzlarich.

The Astoria Volunteer Fire Department was called to the farm.

He was born in Astoria on March 16, 1900, a son of Samuel and Lydia Ebbert Schisler. He married Julia Hess Jan. 20, 1923, at Astoria. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Doris West of Goodfield and Mrs. Margaret Scrogum of Liberty; one son, William of Walnut; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Ray of Astoria; and one sister, Mrs. Bessie Long also of Astoria.

Five sisters and three brothers preceded him in death.

Mr. Schisler was a farmer. He was a member of Astoria Church of the Brethren and Fulton County Farm Bureau.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday afternoon at the Astoria Church of the Brethren with Rev. D. Arnold Naff officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery.
