She was born Oct. 25, 1946, in Rushville, a daughter of Emery and Dorothy Hiles Phillips. She married Byron F. Root on Sept. 25, 1964, in Rushville. He survives.
Also surviving are one son, David G. Root of Daytona Beach, Fla.; one daughter, Karla M. (and Brian) Wilham of Williamsville; one brother, Terry Phillips of Rushville; three sisters, Shirley (and Alan) Baker of Bullhead City, Ariz., Norma (and Bob) Jones of Maryland and Carol Lynn Kokenes of Chicago; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Robert A. Phillips; and one sister, Sara Conlin.
She was a 1964 graduate of Rushville High School and attended Lincoln Land College. She worked as an accountant with the Illinois Department of Human Services retiring in 2002.
Services were held Tuesday at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with Pastor Greg Fish officiating. Burial was in the Rushville City Cemetery.
