Shirley BakerShirley A. Baker, 86, of Beardstown, formerly of Rushville, died at 4:45 p.m. Sept. 3, 2023, at her home.

She was born Nov. 14, 1936, in Schuyler County, a daughter of Emery and Dorothy Hiles Phillips. She married Herman Baker and later married Alan Baker. They both preceded her in death.

She also was preceded in death by one stepson, Emery Baker; one brother, Bob Phillips; and two sisters, Sara Conlin and Rose Mary Root.

Surviving are two daughters, Janet (and Daryle) Fair of Beardstown and Sandra (and Lon) Hilton of Sterling; three stepchildren, Kathleen Baker, Clarence Baker and Suzanne Bullock; one brother, Terry Phillips; two sisters, Norma Jones and Lynne Kokenes; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She owned the Tasty Freeze in Beardstown during the mid 1970s until 1983. She also was a leader of the Lucky Charmers 4-H group. She attended Rushville Free Methodist Church. She worked at the Riverside Casino in Nevada.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Rushville City Cemetery with Kristin Durham officiating. Burial will follow. There will be no visitation. Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville is in charge of arrangements.
