Mrs. Orpha Marie Rhoades, wife of Paul J. Rhoades (deceased) of Astoria, died on Feb. 4, 1982. Death came in the Culbertson Hospital where she was admitted following a massive coronary attack in her home on Feb. 3.

Orpha was the daughter of Charles and Anna (Gruber) Benton, also of Astoria. She was an active member of the Astoria Church of the Brethren and of other organizations in the community. The Rhoades family farmed for many years in the vicinity before moving to Astoria in 1945.

Mrs. Rhoades is survived by two daughters, Nelda (Mrs. Lorrel) Eikenberry of Astoria and Marianne (Mrs. Robert) Pittman of Champaign; two sons, Benton of Elgin and Robert of DeKalb, and Harry Thompson who was reared in the Rhoades home; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. There are many other persons who at some time lived in the Rhoades home and brought special gifts of enrichment to Paul and Orpha and joy to the family.

Orpha’s love and enthusiasm for family life and for her friends, her church, and community characterized her life to the very end. Mrs. Rhoades was a faithful supporter of Christian mission and service among needy people of the world. She will be missed by many.

The family of Mrs. Orpha Rhoades wishes to express heart-felt thanks to friends and neighbors for the many thoughtful acts, words of sympathy and loving support on the occasion of her death.
