Doris ParryDoris E. Parry, 84, of Vermont died at 2:35 p.m. July 30, 2008, at Astoria Gardens & Rehab Center.

She was born June 23, 1924, in Smithfield, a daughter of Milton and Vada Cannon Orwig. She was raised by foster parents, Earl and Edna Shawgo of rural Astoria. She married Willis Parry on Nov. 23, 1940, in Ft. Madison, Iowa. He died April 22, 1994.

She also was preceded in death by one grandson, Jeffrey Hunter; one granddaughter, LeAnn Garrett; three sisters, Florine Lawver, Josey May Courson and Viola Lawver; and one brother, Eldon Orwig.

Surviving are four daughters, Peggy Rumler, Phyllis (and Mike) Bernius and Kathy Little, all of Vermont and Margaret Tomaszek of Des Moines, Iowa; one son, Bobby (and Janet) Parry of Vermont; 29 grandchildren; 67 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.

She attended Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses in Lewistown for over 50 years.

She worked for Gordon Cleaners in Astoria and babysat. She was a homemaker and wrote newspaper columns.

Services were held Monday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Mike Rumler officiating. Burial was in Vermont Cemetery.
