VALERA A. (BROCKLEY) PERNE

Valera A. Perne Dies At Age 81

Valera A. Perne, 81, of Livingston, died Sunday, Dec. 7, 1980, at 6:20 p.m. in St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center.

She was born Oct. 2, 1899 in Vermont, Ill., a daughter of the late William and Clara Kelly Brockley. She married Anton Perne on Sept. 3, 1931, in Vermont, Ill. He preceded her in death on Feb. 7, 1976.

Mrs. Perne is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Ann) Gregor of Edwardsville and Mrs. Sid (Nanette) Holloway of Elcajon, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Claude (Frances) Neice of Macomb and Mrs. Keith (Jessie) Easley of Vermont; two brothers, Kenneth Brockley of Astoria and Leonard Brockley of Vermont; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister in infancy.

Mrs. Perne was a teacher. She received her teaching certificate by examine and began teaching in 1917 in the Vermont High School. She later taught school at the Hog Ridge Country School, the Kost Flatwoods and Vermont Grade Schools. She taught for 11 years at the Galesburg Elementary Schools and was sub-teaching in Livingston until 1943, when she became principal of Pleasant Hill School. She taught in Livingston until her retirement in 1955.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Edwardsville.

Funeral services were held at Lesicko Funeral Home in Livingston with Rev. Roger Zollars officiating. Burial was in Spangle Cemetery.
