James “Jim” Onion

James "Jim" OnionJames Austin “Jim” Onion, 76, formerly of Summum died at 1:35 a.m. May 5, 2018, at UPMC Pinnacle Community Osteopathic in Harrisburg, Pa.

He was born Nov. 17, 1941, in Canton, a son of John Hancock and Ruth Ailene Bohannon Onion. He first married Karen Kopp and later Betty Beeman-Schwaegerman. He is survived by his wife Brenda Ross Onion of Harrisburg.

Also surviving are one brother, John Robert (and Norma) Onion of Summum; four daughters, Jody Onion of DeKalb, Julie Onion Lynch of Vista, Calif., and Rebecca Onion and Amanda Onion, both of Chicago; one stepson, Art Schwaegerman of Compton; one stepdaughter, Heidi Onion of Chicago; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, James Austin Onion Jr.

After high school, he attended Bradley University in Peoria. Then he went to work for Allis Chalmers in the Milwaukee, Wis., offices as a computer technician and later for the Austin Company in Rosemont. His last contract was with Unisys as a computer technology specialist/programmer.

Hetrick-Bitner Funeral Home in Harrisburg is in charge of arrangements.
