John H. Onion, 91, of Summum died at 5:20 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, at Mason District Hospital in Havana.

He was born Dec. 27, 1910, in Lewistown, a son of Austin and Beulah Hancock Onion. He married Ruth A. Bohannon on May 29, 1936, in Winnebago County, Wis. She died Feb. 4, 1999.

He also was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Surviving are two sons, Jim (and Brenda) of Harrisburg, Pa., and John (and Norma) of Summum; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was a World War II Navy veteran.

He was the manager of SS Kresge in Peoria, and owned and operated John's General Store in Summum for 30 years until retiring in 1976.

He was a member of Summum Christian Church, where services were held Saturday with Ken Peterson officiating. Burial was in Summum Cemetery. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria was in charge of arrangements.
