Harold McCurdyHarold L. McCurdy, 90, of Vermont died at 1:43 p.m. Oct. 19, 2020, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital Emergency Room in Rushville.

He was born Aug. 22, 1930, in Galesburg, the son of Harold W. and Louise Way McCurdy. He married Helen Wheeler on Sept. 2, 1951, in Vermont. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, David (and Kathy) McCurdy of Vermont; one daughter, Barbara (and Danny) Kendrick of Vermont; one daughter-in-law, Rose McCurdy of Vermont; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one son, Dale McCurdy; and one great-grandson, Knox Davis Kendrick.

He began working for the United States Postal Service on the mail trains in the late 1960s and retired as Postmaster at the Astoria Post Office in April, 1994. He also officiated football games for schools in the area until he was in his 60s. After retiring, he mowed the Vermont Cemetery for several years.

He served in the United States Navy from 1949-50.

He was a member of the Vermont American Legion and a lifelong member of the Vermont Masonic Lodge. He also was a Scout Master for the local Boy Scout troop for 20-plus years.

A graveside service will be held at a later date in the Vermont Cemetery. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria was in charge of arrangements.
