Harold MalottHarold E. Malott, 87, of Astoria died at 4:35 a.m. May 14, 2019, at home.

He was born Oct. 9, 1931, in Bernadotte Township, Fulton County, a son of Hiram and Bertha Hendee Malott. He married Donna Wys on Oct. 27, 1950, in Lewistown. She preceded him in death on Oct. 7, 1983. He then married Geraldine Piotrowski on Dec. 22, 1984, in Pinckneyville. She preceded him in death on May 10, 2015.

He also was preceded in death by two brothers, an infant and Hiram Malott; and two sisters, Ruby Gobel and Margie Wilson.

Surviving are two daughters, Teresa (and Scott) Burget and Beverly (and Gary) Taylor, both of Rushville; special friend, Dorla Hayes of Astoria; one stepson, Stephen Piotrowski of Tamaroa; three stepdaughters, Julia (and Raymond) Bathon of Pinckneyville, and Deborah (and Steven) Kellerman and Donna Piotrowski, both of Tamaroa; two brothers, Clyde (and Sharon) Malott and John (and Millie) Malott, both of Lewistown; one sister, Doris (and Jim) Case of Peoria; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; eight step-grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren.

He was a lifetime farmer. He also was a coal miner, working in mine construction at the Peabody Mine in Rushville, was a welder for AMAX Coal Company’s Sun Spot Mine in Vermont and worked for the Leighy Mine in Willisville and the Wabash Mine in Mount Carmel.

He was an Army veteran, serving from 1952-54 with a rank of Corporal.

He was a member of the UMWA and UAW. He also was a member of the Carroll Rankin American Legion Post #26 of Vermont.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Pastor Jeremy Westlake officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the memorial home. Burial will be at Astoria Cemetery with full military rites.
