Russell Kost, 88, of Vermont died at 12:12 p.m. Dec. 5, 2007, at Heartland Healthcare Center in Macomb.

He was born Dec. 24, 1918, in Vermont, a son of Wilmer and Jessie Carithers Kost. He married Mildred Hirsch on July 26, 1945, in Trenton, N.J. She died Feb. 7, 2006.

He also was preceded in death by one brother, Jack Kost.

Surviving are one son, Bruce (and Mary) Kost of Glasford; three sisters, Jane Kost and Jean Douglas, both of Vermont, and Joan Loring of Macomb; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a graduate of Worsham College of Mortuary Science in 1946. He owned and operated Kost Memorial Home in Vermont.

He was a member of Royal Arch Masons Chapter 20, AF & AM Lodge 116, Canton 40 et 8 #812, Vermont American Legion Post 26, Lewistown VFW Post 501, Peoria Scottish Rite, Mohammed Shrine and Model T. Club.

He was a member of Vermont Methodist Church.

Services were held Friday at his church with Rev. Robert Green officiating. Burial was in Vermont Cemetery. Kost Memorial Home in Vermont was in charge of arrangements.

Memorial may be made to the Shriners Home.
