VeteranJack Kost Of Vermont Dies

Jack Kost, 69, of Vermont, died at 9:10 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, 1990, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

He was born May 10, 1920, in Vermont, a son of Wilmer Mercer and Jessie Belva Carithers Kost. He married Ethel Dobbs on April 13, 1943.

Surviving are one brother, Russell Kost of Vermont; three sisters, Mrs. Jean Douglas and Ms. Jane Kost, both of Vermont, and Mrs. Joan Miller of Macomb; several nieces and nephews.

He was a truck driver for Ken-Ray and Vermont Foundry. He was a past Illinois State Police motorcycle patrolman and a past Fulton County Deputy Sheriff.

Mr. Kost was a member of Vermont Lodge 116, AF&AM; 40 et 8 Voiture 812 in Canton; Alligator Club; and B.P.O. Elks Lodge 626.

A World War II Army veteran, he was a member and Past Commander of Vermont American Legion Post 26 and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5001 in Lewistown where he was the Quartermaster for 18 years.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Kost Memorial Home in Vermont with Masonic services by Vermont Masonic Lodge 116. Burial was in Vermont Cemetery with graveside military services by VFW Post 5001.

Memorials may be made to VFW Post 5001 in Lewistown.
