Jean DouglasJean (Kost) Douglas, 87, of Vermont died at 1:28 a.m. Sept. 1, 2011, with her dog Cubby by her side.

She was born May 7, 1924, in Vermont, a daughter of Wilmer and Jessie Carithers Kost. She married Lyle (Doug) Douglas on June 26, 1946, in Cissna Park. He preceded her in death on June 20, 1988.

She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Russell Kost.

Surviving are three daughters, Debbie (and Bob) Douglas Young, Bobby Douglas and Sandy (and John) Douglas Bybee, all of Vermont; two sisters, Jane Kost of Vermont and Joan (and Bob) Loring of Macomb; one grandchild; one great-grandchild; and one niece.

She worked as a homemaker, along with helping out her husband with Douglas Oil Company for 53 years before his passing.

She was a member of Vermont American Legion Auxiliary and Lewistown VFW.

Services were held Sunday at Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home in Macomb with Tim Gilliland officiating. Burial was in Vermont Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Fulton County Humane Society, Culbertson Memorial Hospital or Vermont Rescue Squad.
