Russell Kessler

Russell S. Kessler, 89, of Astoria, died at 10:05 p.m. Friday, June 4, 1999, at Astoria Healthcare Center.

He was born Oct. 25, 1909, in Astoria, a son of Samuel and Minnie Etter Kessler. He married Esther Bernice Stambaugh on Dec. 27, 1931, in Summum. She died May 9, 1986.

He was also preceded in death by two sisters, two brothers, one grandson and one great-granddaughter.

Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Arthur (Pollyanna) Pittman of Colchester, Mrs. Richard (Verlena) Driver of Grabill, Ind., Mrs. Dwayne (Elaine) Yost of Manchester, Ky., Mrs. Wallace (Emily) Miller of Carrington, N.D., and Mrs. Luther (Margaret) Fowler of Plainfield, Ind.; one son, Roger of Beardstown; two brothers, Marshall Kessler of Rushville and Dean Kessler of Ipava; 22 grandchildren; and 38 great-grandchildren.

He was a member of Woodland Church of the Brethren and the Fulton County Farm Bureau and was a former Astoria Community Unit 1 school board member.

He was a farmer and owned and operated the Astoria Locker Plant.

Services were held Monday at his church with the Revs. Kevin Kessler and Vernon Dean officiating. Burial was in Woodland Cemetery.
