D. J. Johnson Passed Away Sunday

Daniel J. Johnson, aged 75, passed away Sunday night at 10:00 at his home in Astoria following a six year illness.

Mr. Johnson was born March 16, 1875 in Uniontown, Pa., a son of John and Margaretta Cover Johnson. He came with his parents to Illinois as a boy and resided on a farm with them south of Ipava. He was married to Sarah Miller Dec. 28, 1896. With the exception of a few years, he lived most of his married life in the home place near Ipava, until retiring 3 years ago, to Astoria.

He and his wife united with the Church of the Brethren soon after their marriage. A few years later he was ordained as a deacon and served faithfully and willingly to any duties the church called him.

He was a loving husband and father, always devoted to his family. During his long illness he was very patient and always looked forward to having all his family together. He leaves to mourn his wife and the following children: Mrs. Carrie Walters, Astoria; Roy Johnson, Adair; Mrs. Olive Shawgo, Astoria; Mrs. Edna Kavanaugh, Peoria; Mrs. Mabel Easley, Lewistown; Mrs. Mildred Taylor, Urbana; Mrs. Margaret Greve, Peoria; and a foster son, Henry Block, Adair. Thirteen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and one brother, Jesse Johnson of Uniontown, Pa., also survive.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Astoria Church of the Brethren, conducted by Rev. Homer Kiracofe and Rev. W. A. Deardorff. Burial was in Woodland cemetery.
