Harley HickleHarley James Hickle, 74, of Astoria died at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 6, 2021, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

He was born Aug. 5, 1947, in Macomb, a son of Gilbert L. and Ruby A. Bowman Hickle. He married Kathy Ann Welker on Dec. 1, 1965, in Vermont. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Stephen (and Carmen) Hickle of Astoria; two sisters, Mary (and Herb) Dilts of Marietta and Shelley (and Bob) Haare of Tennessee; one brother, Dave (and Kim) Hickle of Bushnell; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Jamie Hickle; one daughter-granddaughter, Liberty Hickle; one brother, Michael Hickle; and his parents.

He was a shift leader for Illinois Power, Dynegy, and later Vistra in Havana for 43 years, retiring in October of 2011.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving from 1965-68. His last duty assignment was on the USS Ozark and his rank was BT2.

He was a 50-year member of the Astoria American Legion Post #25.

Graveside Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Astoria Cemetery with military rites provided by the Astoria American Legion Post #25. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria is in charge of arrangements.
