Bernard HeathBernard W. Heath, 87, of Adair died at 12:51 p.m. Nov. 11, 2019, at St. Johns Hospital in Springfield.

He was born Nov. 23, 1931, in Astoria, a son of Samuel and Naomi Brehm Heath. He married Joanne Etter on July 29, 1957, in Astoria. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Jennifer (and Amy) Heath of Bloomington; one son, Bradley (and Tara) Heath of Macomb; two brothers, Eldon Heath of Canton and Bill (and Alice) Heath of Havana; one sister, Shirley (and Carl) Tyler of Napa, Calif.; and one grandchild.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Franklin Heath; and one sister, Betty Ralston.

He worked for AMAX Coal Company and the Sunspot Mine in Vermont until 1984 upon closing. He went on to retire from the Wabash Mine in Mount Carmel in 1994.

He served in the U.S. Air Force as an aircraft mechanic from 1951-55.

He was a member of the Vermont Masonic Lodge and the Macomb American Legion. He also was a longtime member of the New Salem Fire Department.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the New Salem Fire Department in Adair or the Macomb Police K9 Unit.
