Russell G. Hamm, 83, of Havana, formerly of Ipava, died at 5:15 p.m. June 30, 2014, at Havana Health Care Center.

He was born Jan. 19, 1931, in Bernadotte Township, a son of William and Loreine McCaughey. He married Beverly J. Beck on May 29, 1953, in Astoria. She survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Becky (and Joe) Hatch-Prochaska of Woodridge and Mary (and Roger McGrew) Layton and Christy (and Fred) Ray, both of Havana; three sons, Glen (and Debbie) Hamm of St. David, Russell (and Annette) Hamm of Macomb and Gary Hamm of Havana; two sisters, Irma (and Marvin) McCormick of Ipava and Marjorie Deakin of Cuba; 12 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, Stephen Hamm; three brothers, Bill, Bob and Harold Hamm; and two sisters, Wilma Baughman and Mildred France.

He worked several jobs including Burgard Chevrolet, Ipava Elevator, Peabody Coal Company, Construction and finally was self employed at the end of his working career.

He was in the U.S. Air Force for two years — stationed in Korea.

He was a member of Ipava American Legion Post 17 and served as president for several years.

Services were held Thursday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Ipava with Reverend Sidney Davis officiating. Burial was in Ipava Cemetery. Military rites were provided by American Legion Post 17.
