Harold HammHarold E. Hamm, 75, of Janesville, Wis., formerly of Ipava, died unexpectedly Dec. 13, 2009, at Mercy Hospital in Janesville, following a stroke.

He was born April 24, 1934, a son of William and Loriene McCaughy Hamm in Ipava. He married Patricia Welsh on June 24, 1961, in Janesville. She survives.

Also surviving are four children: Jamie (and Dan) Topel and Jeffrey (and Yolanda) Hamm, both of Janesville, Patrick (and Brenda) Hamm of Milton and Kyle Hamm of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; two sisters, Marjorie Deakin of Cuba and Irma (and Marvin) McCormick of Ipava; one brother, Russell (and Beverly) Hamm of Havana; one special brother, Merle (and Pat) Hamm of Miami, Fla.; and 11 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four siblings: Robert and William “Billy” Hamm, Mildred France and Wilma Baughman.

After serving in the U.S. Army, Harold moved to the Footville/Janesville area in the 1950s and began working at General Motors Plant.

Harold and his family moved to Ft. Wayne, Ind., in the late 1980s to continue his work for General Motors and moved back to the Janesville area in 2007.

He was a member of St. William’s Catholic Church, UAW Unit 95, Milton Knights of Columbus and a former member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Milton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at St. William’s Catholic Church in Janesville with Fr. John Auby officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Schneider Apfel Schneider and Schneider Funeral Home in Janesville.
