Otis Blaine Hopping, 77, of Washington, formerly of Astoria, died at 12:25 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, 1997, at Rosewood Care Center of East Peoria.

He was born Nov. 18, 1919, in Astoria, a son of Henry and Dorothy Dickenson Hopping. He married Dorothy L. Lockard on March 5, 1941. She died Dec. 19, 1969. He later married Evelyn Shaw Surratt on Sept. 4, 1970, in Astoria. She survives.

Also surviving are three stepdaughters, Kathryn Oliver, Ann Klinedinst and Beverly Grubor, all of Canton; one stepson, Steven Surratt of Washington; 15 step-grandchildren; 17 step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Anna Ratcliff of Astoria; and one brother, Myron “Bud” Hopping of Mackinaw.

He was preceded in death by one brother and one granddaughter.

A brick mason, he retired in 1989. He was a member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftsmen. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of the First Church of the Brethren in Peoria.

Services were held Friday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Rev. Stephen E. Wagoner officiating. Burial was in Astoria Cemetery.
