Marjorie FosterMarjorie B. Foster, 87, of Astoria died at 8:45 p.m. Oct. 19, 2009, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.

She was born Sept. 7, 1922, in Harmon, Okla., a daughter of Jake D. and Mayme Buttler Groff. She married Harold D. Foster on Sept. 21, 1940, in Palmyra, Mo. He preceded her in death on Nov. 13, 2006.

She also was preceded in death by one son, Jerry Foster; one brother, Jay Dee Groff; and three sisters.

Surviving are three daughters, Linda (and Gale) Roosa of Ipava, and Carol (and Paul) Stambaugh and Merrie Jean (and Roy) Parry, both of Astoria; one son, Michael (and Irene) Foster of Belleville; two sisters, Coita (and Delbert) Fairburn of Astoria and Jo Ellen (and Carl) Gunter of Los Alamitos, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She volunteered at South Fulton Senior Citizens Center in Astoria. She also helped her husband farm and was a homemaker.

She was a member of Summum Christian Church where she worked in the church nursery and taught Sunday school for many years. She was a Deaconess for one year and a member of Flower Lovers.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Rev. Ken Peterson officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the memorial home. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Astoria.

Memorials may be made to her church, Astoria Rescue Squad, Astoria Public Library or South Fulton Senior Citizens Center.
