Margaret DouglasMargaret R. Douglas, 90, of Rushville, formerly of Astoria, died at 8:08 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6, 2006, at Snyder's Vaughn-Haven nursing home in Rushville.

She was born Feb. 28, 1915, in Eldorado Township, McDonough County, a daughter of Charles and Ritta Lybarger Renner. She married Marshall A. Stoops on Feb. 2, 1936, in Astoria. She later married James F. Douglas on Jan. 11, 1971, in Astoria. He died Oct. 8, 1976.

She also was preceded in death by one son, Michael Stoops; four brothers, Ralph and Robert Renner and two infants; one sister, Nina Cox; and one great-great-grandson.

Surviving are two sons, Charles (and Ruby) Stoops of Blair, Okla., and Clair Stoops of Fort Wayne, Ind.; three daughters, Shirley (and Milt) Lawver of Astoria, Sharon Umphryes of Lincoln and Nancy (and Leroy) Bollinger of Rushville; 14 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one step-great-granddaughter; and several great-great-grandchildren.

She was a cook at Subway Cafe, Main Street Cafe and The Drive-In restaurant in Astoria, and Martha Young's Restaurant and Vivian's Coffee Cup in Vermont. She also operated Thompson's Cafe in Table Grove.

She was a member of Vermont American Legion Auxiliary #26 and the Residence Council at Snyder's Vaughn-Haven nursing home in Rushville, where she participated in many activities. She was a former member of the E.U.B. Church in Astoria.

Services were held Sunday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Rev. Ray Greenfield officiating. Burial was in Astoria Cemetery in Astoria.

Memorials may be made to the Hughes Park Baseball and Softball Program, the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ Endowment Fund in Rushville or Snyder's Vaughn-Haven nursing home.
