Milton LawverMilton R. Lawver, 77, of Astoria died at 11:59 a.m. Feb. 8, 2014, at his home.

He was born Aug. 11, 1936, in Astoria, a son of Elzie and Viola Orwig Lawver. He married Shirley Stoops on June 6, 1964, in Lewistown. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Cindy (and Craig) Schaeffer and Barb (and Kent) Cowin, both of Astoria; one brother, Elmer Lawver of Pekin; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara Long and Joyce Carter; and one brother, Edsall Lawver.

He was a welder at International Harvester in Canton and Navistar in Springfield, Ohio, retiring in 1996.

He was a U.S. Army veteran serving from 1955-59.

He was a member of Astoria United Methodist Church and United Auto Workers of America.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with full military rites by Astoria American Legion Post 25. Burial will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the grandchildren’s education fund.
